Last Updated: January 2025
Introduction
ChoresAndAllowance ("we", "our", or "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application.
This app is designed for families to manage chores and allowances. We take the privacy of children seriously and comply with applicable privacy laws including the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Information We Collect
Information You Provide
When you use ChoresAndAllowance, you may provide the following information:
- Family Information: Family name
- Member Profiles: Display names, avatar emojis, roles (parent, kid, observer), and optional PIN codes (stored as encrypted hashes)
- Chore Data: Chore templates, assignments, completion status, and verification records
- Financial Data: Allowance amounts, ledger transactions, and balance information
- Usage Data: Timestamps for when chores are completed, verified, or modified
Automatically Collected Information
We do not collect device identifiers, advertising IDs, or track your activity across other apps or websites.
Our service providers may collect limited technical information:
- Firebase (Google): Firebase Authentication may collect anonymous authentication tokens. Firebase Firestore stores the data you create within the app (families, members, chores, transactions) associated with your family's unique ID.
- RevenueCat: If you purchase a subscription, RevenueCat collects transaction data, subscription status, and anonymous user identifiers to manage your subscription.
How We Use Your Information
We use your information solely to:
- Provide core app functionality (create profiles, assign chores, track allowances)
- Synchronize data across your family's devices using Firebase
- Process and manage subscription purchases through RevenueCat
- Store your data securely in the cloud
We do NOT:
- Sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes
- Use your data for advertising
- Track your activity outside the app
- Collect location data
- Access your camera, photos, or contacts (unless you explicitly grant permission in future photo verification features)
Data Storage and Security
Cloud Storage (Firebase)
Your family's data is stored in Google Firebase Firestore, which uses industry-standard encryption both in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest. Data is stored in Firebase's cloud infrastructure and is associated with your family's unique invite code.
Local Storage
The app also stores a local cache of your data on your device using iOS FileManager for offline functionality. This data is protected by your device's built-in security features.
PIN Codes
Parent and observer PIN codes are stored as SHA-256 cryptographic hashes, not as plain text. We cannot recover or view your PIN.
Data Sharing and Third Parties
We only share data with the following trusted third-party service providers:
Firebase (Google Cloud)
RevenueCat
- Purpose: Subscription management and payment processing
- Data Shared: Anonymous user ID, subscription status, purchase receipts
- Privacy Policy: https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy
We do not use third-party analytics, advertising networks, or tracking services.
Children's Privacy
ChoresAndAllowance is designed for family use and may be used by children under 13 with parental consent. We comply with COPPA and other applicable children's privacy laws.

- We do not knowingly allow children to share personal information publicly

Family Data Sharing
ChoresAndAllowance uses invite codes to enable family members to share data across devices. When you share your family's invite code:
- Anyone with the code can join your family and access all family data

- Keep your invite code private (treat it like a password)
